On-Site & Online Ellen V. & Philip L. Glass Holocaust Commemorative Series – Honoring the Past to Transform the Future: Yom HaShoah Commemoration
Join us for a poignant and reflective afternoon as Illinois Holocaust Museum, Sheerit Hapleitah of Metropolitan Chicago, Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Chicago, and CJE SeniorLife Holocaust Community Services commemorate Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) and mark the 15th anniversary of Illinois Holocaust Museum.
This powerful intergenerational commemoration will be led by Sam Harris, Holocaust Survivor and Museum President Emeritus; Muriel Blumstein, 2nd-Generation descendant of Holocaust Survivors and daughter of Museum Founder and Board Member Barbara Steiner (z”l); and Dan Thalheimer, 3rd-Generation descendant of Holocaust Survivors, Museum Board Member, Co-Founder of 3G Chicago, and grandson of Museum Founders and Board Members Walter (z”l) and Eva Thalheimer. The commemoration will also include remarks by dignitaries; a candle-lighting ceremony featuring Survivors, descendants of Survivors, and community leaders; a reading of the Legacy of Holocaust Survivors and the Pledge of Acceptance of the Second Generation; as well as memorial prayers and song chanted by Hazzan Jacob Sandler from North Suburban Synagogue Beth El.
Together, we will honor the memory of those who were murdered during the Shoah and pay tribute to those who survived and have made a better world for us all.
Free to the public. Reservations required.
