Online Lunch & Learn: Music of Remembrance

April 4, 2023 | 12:00pm CDT

Online

Join us online for a “lunch & learn” panel featuring the acclaimed creative team of composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer; son of Holocaust Survivors and former Chicago Tribune arts critic Howard Reich; and founder and artistic director of Music of Remembrance (MOR), Mina Miller. The panelists will discuss three Holocaust-inspired works by Heggie and Scheer that MOR will perform in Chicago. More broadly, they will explore the power of music to confront injustice and intolerance.

In addition to researching and performing music written during the Holocaust, Music of Remembrance looks beyond the Holocaust to address the experiences of others who have been excluded or persecuted for their faith, ethnicity, gender, or sexuality. MOR seeks to pay tribute to historic memory and confront challenges to human rights today by hosting concerts and educational programs, commissioning new works, and supporting young artists.

Reservations required.
