On-Site Graphic Novel Launch: “Hour of Need”

September 10, 2023 | 2:30pm CDT

9603 Woods Drive, Skokie, IL 60077

Developed in partnership with Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center, Hour of Need is a graphic novel that shares the true story of how the people of an occupied nation risked their lives to evacuate their Jewish countrymen.

When Nazis moved to round up Danish Jews in a surprise raid in 1943, families were forced to make life-and-death decisions to save their lives. Overnight, they became refugees at the mercy of strangers organizing their escape. Hour of Need is a tribute to these strangers – ordinary citizens who defied the Nazi regime – and how their heroic actions saved Danish Jews.

Join us for a live conversation with Hour of Need’s author, Ralph Shayne, and illustrator, Tatiana Goldberg, as they discuss the inspiration behind, collaboration, and creation process for this graphic novel.  This conversation will be moderated by University of Chicago Professor, Daniel Raeburn.

Pre-orders of Hour of Need are available online. Program attendees can pick up their copy at the Museum and get it signed by Ralph and Tatiana after the discussion.

This program is FREE to the public. Reservations are required.

Hour of Need is sponsored by the Abe and Ida Cooper Foundation.
