Virtual Program: Insurrectionist Threats to Our Democracy

October 5, 2021 | 6:30pm CDT

Virtual

A new threat to America is evolving, and all levels of government and society now need to seriously contend with the prospect of American Political Violence and realize significant danger of further repetition of the January 6 attack on the Capitol occurring around the country.

Since January 6, one might have expected fires to fade. However, a recent national representative survey by University of Chicago Project on Security & Threats (CPOST) paints a different, if not alarming, picture.

Join Illinois Holocaust Museum and CPOST for this timely virtual event on Tuesday, October 5 at 6:30 pm (CDT), as we explore CPOST’s latest findings on the American insurrectionist movement, discuss the development of policies to mitigate the risk of future violence, and learn how we can use history to assess this grave risk to our society and the democracy.

The presentation will be followed by a discussion between:

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and one of the principal sponsors in the Senate of the No Hate Crimes Act, now signed by President Biden.

Former Rep. David Jolly (FL), Executive Chairman of the Serve America Movement and Analyst on MSNBC and CNN

Professor Robert Pape, founding director of the University of Chicago Project on Security and Threats (CPOST).

Moderated by Richard Salomon, Vice President, Illinois Holocaust Museum Board of of Directors
