ELLEN V. & PHILIP L. GLASS HOLOCAUST COMMEMORATIVE SERIES | Pieces of a Man: A Son’s Reckoning with Memory and Survival

January 27, 2026 | 6:30pm CST

Northbrook Public Library, 1201 Cedar Ln, Northbrook, IL

Each year on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we gather to honor the six million Jews and millions of others murdered by the Nazis. We remember the lives lost, the communities destroyed, and the truths that history demands we carry forward.

This year’s commemoration features Pieces of a Man, a searing one-man performance by writer and storyteller David Labi. With raw honesty and sharp wit, Labi shares the story of his father, a Libyan Jew who survived the Nazi camps as a child and later lived a life shaped by silence, survival, and storm.

Part tribute, part reckoning, Pieces of a Man explores how trauma lives on through family. It is a meditation on fatherhood, masculinity, migration, and what it means to grow up in the shadow of unspoken history.

Acclaimed across Europe and hailed as “a masterclass in how to draw a whole life against the canvas of history,” the performance offers a rare and intimate lens on the legacy of the Holocaust—how it is remembered, and how it is inherited.

Join us for an evening of reflection and storytelling. Together, we commit to memory, justice, and to ensuring that “never again” is not a phrase, but a promise.

Free to the public. Reservations required.
