Babiy Yar Commemoration: 84th Anniversary
In honor of the 84th anniversary of the Babiy Yar massacre, please join Holocaust Community Services CJE Seniorlife and the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center for an afternoon of remembrance, reflection, and song.
The commemoration will feature musicians from the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and a powerful keynote address by Yaron Gamburg, international affairs expert and Russian Program Research Associate at the Institute for National Security Studies of Tel Aviv University. Drawing from his extensive research on antisemitism and the Holocaust in post-Soviet Russia, Gamburg will explore a range of critical topics, from pre-World War II antisemitism, the tragic circumstances of the Babiy Yar atrocity, the Soviet Union’s suppression of Holocaust memory, as well as shedding light on the pervasive issue of global antisemitism today.
The commemoration will include a candle-lighting ceremony featuring Survivors and descendants of the Holocaust, as well as representatives of the Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest and the Consulate General of Ukraine in Chicago.
English-to-Russian translation will be provided.
