09-10 Opportunity Grants
PLEASE NOTE: Funding for the 2009-2010 school year is now closed. Please check back in the fall for future funding opportunities.

IHMEC is pleased to be able to provide opportunity grants to support field trip expenses for qualified Illinois schools during the 2009-2010 academic year. The program enables us to offer subsidies for transportation and admission to the Museum for students and chaperones.

How to Apply

Students Entering Museum for Field TripTo qualify, your school must be located in Illinois and have a confirmed field trip date.

To apply for the Opportunity Grants Program, you must submit an application on school letterhead stating:

1) Your confirmed field trip date and number of students participating
2) Your need for the funds (i.e. percentage on free/reduced lunch)
3) Why you want to visit the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center

The letter must be signed by the applicant.

Letters should be submitted to:

Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center
Attn: Opportunity Grants Program – Education
9603 Woods Drive
Skokie, IL 60077

Transportation Scheduling
While the IHMEC Opportunity Grants Program covers the cost of transportation to and from the Museum, arrangements for transportation are the responsibility of the school.

We will subsidize up to $1,000 maximum per school for transportation costs. Please mail an invoice to IHMEC for reimbursement of transportation costs no later then 30 days after your scheduled field trip date.

Field Trip Deposit
Opportunity Grant recipients receive free student admission to the Museum. However, schools must still submit the $50 deposit within 14 days of confirming a field trip to hold space. This deposit will be refunded after your field trip is complete, generally along with transportation reimbursement.

Feedback & Evaluation
In order to continue to provide our Opportunity Grants Program, it is essential that the sponsors understand the true impact of their support. Schools who are awarded an opportunity grant must complete a “Letter of Thanks” to the sponsor and IHMEC written by the teacher(s) and/or students impacted by the program and field trip.

In addition, please complete the “Field Trip Evaluation” form that was handed to the lead teacher when you arrived on your field trip visit and return to the address above.
