Marketing and Public Relations Internship
Sharpen your marketing and communications skills in a dynamic museum environment while working to make the world a better place. The Marketing and Public Relations Intern will work directly with the Director of Marketing on a variety of projects that support the Museum’s mission through social media, marketing and public relations initiatives.
This is an unpaid internship with flexible hours, minimum 20 hours per week for 3 months.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work with the Social Media Team to create a more robust Museum presence on Facebook and Twitter
- Research trends and emerging social media platforms and work to expand the Museum’s online footprint
- Keep up-to-date on museum and holocaust news and initiatives through print and online media
- Contribute to brainstorming sessions
- Assist in writing and distribution of press releases and media alerts
- Make follow up calls to media to assist in securing stories
- Compile media lists
- Maintain archive of all Museum publicity
- Make simple text edits on our website using web-based editor software
- Participate in search-optimization of our site
- Assist in writing of newsletter and other communications
- Conduct on-site market research through visitor surveys
- Input data of Museum visitor surveys and conduct data analysis
- Other duties on an as-needed basis which may include clerical or research-based functions
Qualifications desired:
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with major social media platforms and trends
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Detail oriented and professional
- Creative and flexible
- Preferred 4 year college degree with one of the following majors: English, Communications, PR, Marketing Journalism
- Prior knowledge of the Holocaust and genocide is a plus, but not a requirement
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint preferred
- Graphic design skills a plus
