FAQ
When can I request a trunk?

Complete an online request form to reserve a trunk. Trunk requests will be managed on a first-come, first-served basis.
IHMEC Teaching Trunk
How long can I keep a trunk?
Trunks may be reserved for 4 to 6 weeks, based on availability.

Does the trunk include artifacts?
Although the trunks are rich in a variety of literature-based materials, the trunks do not contain historical artifacts or artifact reproductions.

How much does a trunk cost?
There is no cost for borrowing a teaching trunk. We do require a refundable $200 security deposit to secure your reservation (see next question).

We also require that the school return three forms of feedback with their trunk: photos, thank-you letters, and an evaluation form.

Who is liable for damage or lost materials?
The borrower is responsible for the trunk and its content. The Museum requires a refundable $200 security deposit for any losses and/or damage that may occur to the materials, which is refunded upon return and reinventory of the trunk. Any damages or losses beyond $200 will be billed directly to the school. Please review the IHMEC Teaching Trunk Information and Guidelines instructions packet regarding damaged or lost materials.

How is the trunk shipped?
IHMEC uses UPS to ship our teaching trunks. Round-trip shipping is free of charge. UPS will deliver the trunk to the front door/office of the school; schools are responsible for moving the trunks inside. Trunks may weigh up to 130 pounds. Pre-paid return labels are brought with UPS at pick-up and instructions are emailed before the scheduled pick-up date.

What schools borrowed a teaching trunk in 2011 - 2012?
Over five dozen schools from five states used a teaching trunk in their curriculum in 2011 - 2012. Click here to see the full list.
