Advanced Holocaust Studies Seminar
August 1 - August 3, 2012
9:00am — 3:00pm
Prerequisite: 5 - day Holocaust Institute
The Advanced Holocaust Studies Seminar, a three-day intensive academic institute for secondary teachers, will provide local, regional and national educators the tools, knowledge and materials to implement advanced Holocaust education into language arts and social sciences curricula. Participants will become familiar with techniques, methods and resources that include multimedia presentations, guest speakers and interdisciplinary connections that align with state and national standards.
Building upon foundational knowledge, teachers will participate in an intensive, focused study of specific historical themes related to the history of the Nazi Holocaust (1933-1945). The 2012 seminar will explore in-depth historical and contemporary antisemitism, as well as the Holocaust in the Netherlands and Eastern European countries such as Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and the Ukraine. Each Institute day will include historical perspectives, pedagogical breakout sessions, and methodological discussion.
